Threadfin shad are an excellent choice for enrichment of the food chain to ultimately lead to fatter bass, catfish, crappie, etc. Looking for evidence that these fish are a necessity in your lake or pond?....look at almost any public lake in Texas, they all have self-sustaining populations of threadfin shad. They have been stocked in Texas fisheries for a number of years and have given excellent results. Threadfins mature sexually at 2-2.5 inches in length and they begin spawning at 68-70 degrees, producing over 10,000 eggs per female. Shad normally spawn twice per year, once in the spring and once in the early fall. Eggs are laid on shoreline aquatic vegetation and hatch in 3-5 days. Since these fish are filter feeders you should fertilize your fishery to ensure that they reach their potential. If you are interested in producing largemouth bass, these fish are a must for diversification of the food chain.
We take orders for threadfin shad and deliver them directly to your fishery in the spring. Fish are already mature, ranging in size from 2-5 inches, and females are usually full of eggs. Stocking rates for new lakes and ponds is 250+ shad per acre, and up to 1000 shad per acre for existing lakes and ponds.
